[Asia Economy Intern Reporter Kim Seul-gi] 'Captain' Ki Sung-yueng (31), whose return to the K League fell through, is expected to play for a Spanish first division club.
On the 20th, Ki Sung-yueng's management company, 'C2 Global,' announced, "Ki Sung-yueng will depart on the 21st to finalize contract negotiations and undergo a medical check with a Spanish first division club."
'C2 Global' did not disclose the team Ki Sung-yueng will join, but earlier local Spanish media mentioned La Liga's Real Betis. Real Betis is currently ranked 12th in the league.
After parting ways with England's Premier League club Newcastle last month, Ki Sung-yueng sought to return to the K League as a free agent (FA). He negotiated with his former team FC Seoul and Jeonbuk Hyundai but was unable to find common ground.
Turning his attention to overseas leagues, Ki Sung-yueng received offers from clubs in Spain, Qatar, and the United States. He is scheduled to meet the press at Incheon International Airport on the 21st to discuss his future plans.
On the 12th, shortly after his K League return fell through, Ki Sung-yueng posted on his Instagram, "Hurt me with a lie and I can hurt you with the truth."
