[Asia Economy Reporter Jo In-kyung] Amid ongoing concerns about the spread of COVID-19, about 60% of kindergartens and elementary, middle, and high schools nationwide have started their end-of-term vacations (spring break).
According to the Ministry of Education on the 12th, as of 10 a.m. that day, 59.8% (12,281 out of 20,526) of kindergartens and schools had entered their end-of-term vacations (spring break).
Since the outbreak of COVID-19, 2.6% (536 schools) have been closed or are still on winter break, while 37.6% (7,709 schools) are conducting normal classes.
The total number of schools that did not hold scheduled classes and were closed on that day was 390. Nationwide, 199 kindergartens, 129 elementary schools, 31 middle schools, 27 high schools, and 4 special schools were closed.
This is a slight increase compared to the 387 schools closed the previous day, with 22 additional schools closing and 19 schools either resuming classes or starting their end-of-term vacations after being closed until the previous day.
There are 2 students and 1 staff member currently under self-quarantine who have returned from Hubei Province, China, within the past two weeks but show no suspicious symptoms.
