[Asia Economy (Suwon) = Reporter Lee Young-gyu] Gyeonggi Province is forming a 'Metropolitan Delinquent Tax Mobile Team' in cooperation with 31 cities and counties within the province to collect taxes from high-amount and habitual delinquent taxpayers.
The target delinquent taxpayers are 10,913 individuals who have overdue provincial taxes of 4 million KRW or more and city taxes of 10 million KRW or more. Their total outstanding tax amount is 443.5 billion KRW.
The Metropolitan Delinquent Tax Mobile Team consists of 76 members, including 14 from the province and 62 from cities and counties. After conducting a full survey to understand the residence and living conditions of the delinquent taxpayers and classifying the possibility of collection, they will carry out customized tax collection activities such as home searches, installment payment inducement, and write-off processing.
Among them, for high-amount delinquent taxpayers who own assets, strong disposition procedures will be carried out through home searches, seizure of movable property, and public auctions.
In particular, starting this year, all methods permitted by the Local Tax Collection Act will be utilized, including adding seizure targets such as investment funds in local agricultural cooperatives or Saemaeul Geumgo, health insurance medical fees received by medical professionals from patients and the National Health Insurance Corporation, and various financial investment assets.
Last year, through the Metropolitan Delinquent Tax Mobile Team, the province collected 101.4 billion KRW from 4,308 of the 10,213 high-amount and habitual delinquent taxpayers.
During this process, 2,464 delinquent taxpayers who were struggling financially and corporate delinquent taxpayers facing cash flow difficulties paid 37.6 billion KRW through installment payments. Additionally, emergency living expenses were provided through welfare linkage to three high-amount delinquent taxpayers who were temporarily unemployed and unable to pay.
Lee Ui-hwan, Director of the Tax Justice Division of the province, emphasized, "Due to these achievements, benchmarking visits from other cities and provinces such as Seoul, Gyeongnam, and Gwangju have continued to learn Gyeonggi Province's collection techniques. We will strive to realize the value of fairness through more effective and responsible collaboration."
