Irish folk rock singer-songwriter Damien Rice will visit Korea in January of next year for his first concert in the country.

A press release by the concert's organizer Hyundai Card said on Friday that Rice will perform in Seoul on January 11.

This will also make him the fifth artist to take part in the "Hyundai Card Culture Project" aimed at introducing various realms of culture, including new and global artists, theater, musicals, dance and exhibitions to the local audience.

Rice was supposed to perform at Korea's Pentaport Rock Festival in 2007 but had to cancel for reasons concerning his health.

Best known among the local audience for his song "The Blower's Daughter" from the soundtrack to film "Closer," Rice, 37, began his musical career as a member of the 1990s rock group Juniper.

He then left the band however and worked as a farmer until 2001 when he resumed his singing career as a solo artist.

His debut album "O" in 2002 stayed on British charts for 97 weeks and his second album "9" in 2006 placed within the top ranks of the U.S. Billboard chart for ten weeks.
