On December 5 (local time), FIFA announced that it would award the inaugural FIFA Peace Prize to Trump, citing his mediation efforts in the conflict between Israel and the Palestinian militant group Hamas following his inauguration, as well as his ongoing efforts to end the war in Ukraine.
Gianni Infantino, President of FIFA, presented President Trump with a golden medal and a trophy depicting several hands supporting the globe at the group draw ceremony for the 2026 North American World Cup, held at the Kennedy Center in Washington DC. President Trump placed the medal around his own neck and beamed with a bright smile as applause erupted from the audience.
FIFA explained, "The Peace Prize is being awarded to Trump because of his remarkable actions in promoting world peace and helping to unite people around the globe."
In his acceptance speech, President Trump stated, "Just a year ago, the United States was not doing things properly, but now the world has become safer, and America has become the hottest country in the world." He also praised the partnership with Mexico and Canada, the co-hosting nations, as "going extremely well," and dedicated the honor of the award to his wife, Melania Trump.

He further emphasized, "We have saved millions of lives, and the world is now a safer place," highlighting that the Trump administration, which began its second term in January of this year, has resolved conflicts such as those between Pakistan and India.
President Trump has repeatedly expressed his desire to win the Nobel Peace Prize, claiming, "I stopped eight wars," but this year's Nobel Peace Prize was awarded to Maria Corina Machado, a female opposition leader from Venezuela. It has been reported that FIFA established the Peace Prize ahead of the World Cup group draw being held in Washington DC.
