Test-Taker Involved in Seobu District Court Riot Receives Suspended Prison Sentence in First Trial

On November 17, Judge Kim Jinseong of the 6th Criminal Division of the Seoul Western District Court sentenced Mr. Park (20), who was tried on charges including special trespassing, to one year in prison with a three-year suspension, and ordered 200 hours of community service.

Mr. Park was accused of trespassing on the court premises and throwing a plastic safety cone at the police on January 19, when an arrest warrant was issued for former President Yoon Suk-yeol.

Judge Kim stated, "The crime stemmed from an obsession to interpret the issuance of the court's warrant as a political conspiracy and to retaliate against it," and added, "I deliberated a lot between a prison sentence and a suspended sentence." He explained that the sentencing took into account the relatively minor nature of the assault on the police, Mr. Park's sincere remorse, and the fact that this was his first offense.

The sentencing was originally scheduled for October 27 but was postponed to this day in consideration of Mr. Park's participation in the 2026 College Scholastic Ability Test.
