Major International Media Outlets, Including BBC and NBC, Take Notice
The hologram police guidance system installed in a park in Jung-gu, Seoul, is drawing attention from major international media outlets. This is because it is seen as a practical alternative to strengthen public safety in areas with high concerns about nighttime crime.
On October 10, the BBC in the United Kingdom released a news video titled "How South Korea Uses Hologram Police to Prevent Crime." The main subject was the hologram police installed by the Seoul Jungbu Police Station at Jeodong 3 Park since October last year.
The reporting team visited the park in person to observe the hologram police. The hologram police, facing the reporter, repeatedly announced via audio message, "This area is equipped with intelligent CCTV. In case of emergencies such as violence, the police will respond in real time."
The BBC pointed out that this technology has been deployed in an area densely populated with entertainment venues, where concerns about nighttime crime are high, and assessed that attempts to enhance public safety using technology could be a practical solution. The police also reported that since the installation of the hologram, the crime rate in the area has decreased by 22 percent, providing psychological reassurance to citizens and helping to deter disorderly conduct.
Other major international media outlets, such as NBC in the United States and DW in Germany, also featured related videos on their YouTube channels, highlighting South Korea's unusual adoption of advanced public safety technology. In response, overseas internet users commented, "This is the technology of the future," "It looks like we'll see this in the US soon," and "I thought it was a ghost, but it's a police officer-this must be effective."
