Competition Rate Rises for Three Consecutive Years
Yeungnam University (President Choi Oechul) announced that as of 6 p.m. on September 12, the application period for the 2026 academic year rolling admissions had closed, with 25,293 applicants vying for 3,857 spots (within the regular quota), resulting in an average competition rate of 6.56 to 1. This marks an increase from the previous year's rolling admissions competition rate of 6.2 to 1 (within the regular quota).
The competition rate for Yeungnam University's rolling admissions has risen for three consecutive years since the 2024 academic year, confirming strong preference among applicants. The number of applicants also increased by 1,370 from the previous year, reaching a total of 26,912 (including those outside the regular quota), setting a new record for the highest number of applicants in Yeungnam University's rolling admissions.
Traditionally, the medical and pharmaceutical fields have seen high competition rates, and this trend continued this year. The highest competition rate was recorded for the General Student Track in the Department of Pre-Medicine, with 270 applicants for 8 spots, resulting in a rate of 33.75 to 1. The Department of Pre-Medicine also saw high competition rates in the Regional Talent Track (Medical/Pharmaceutical) at 23.3 to 1, Rural Student Track at 18 to 1, Regional Talent Track at 17.29 to 1, Regional Opportunity Balance Track (Medical/Pharmaceutical) at 17 to 1, and Medical Creative Talent Track at 14.63 to 1. For the Department of Pharmacy, the Regional Talent Track (Medical/Pharmaceutical) recorded 27.2 to 1, the General Student Track 21.73 to 1, and the Regional Talent Track 13.88 to 1, all showing high rates across the board.
In addition, the General Student Track saw high competition rates for the Department of Philosophy at 24.3 to 1, the Department of Fiber System Engineering at 19.31 to 1, the Department of Forest Resources at 14.3 to 1, and the Department of International Development and Saemaul Studies at 10.79 to 1. In the Regional Talent Track, the Applied Chinese Interpretation and Translation major recorded 15.8 to 1, German Language and Culture major 10.57 to 1, English Interpretation and Translation major 10.33 to 1, and the Department of Future Automotive Engineering 9.7 to 1. The Potential Talent Track saw the Department of Psychology at 16.25 to 1, Department of Media and Communication at 16.18 to 1, Department of Global Business at 12.57 to 1, and Department of Police Administration at 12.14 to 1. In the Practical Skills Track, the Department of Physical Education (Physical Education major) recorded a competition rate of 12.83 to 1.
By admission track, the General Student Track, which recruited 1,429 students, had 8,857 applicants, resulting in a competition rate of 6.2 to 1. The Regional Talent Track, recruiting 903 students, received 5,648 applications for a rate of 6.25 to 1. The Potential Talent Track, with 950 spots, attracted 7,384 applicants, resulting in a rate of 7.77 to 1.
The increase in competition rate and record-high number of applicants for Yeungnam University's 2026 rolling admissions is seen as a reflection of the trust that parents and applicants have in the university's educational competitiveness. In the 2025 University Information Disclosure (2024 academic year performance), Yeungnam University ranked first nationwide in total scholarship amount at 86.5 billion won, strengthening its student-centered support. For the 2025 academic year, the university also achieved a 100% fill rate for new students within the regular quota, further proving its competitiveness through admissions results.
The university's support system, which provides tangible benefits to students in various fields such as academics, research, international exchange, and career development, continues to attract strong interest from parents and applicants. Under the slogan "Eyes on the Future, Challenges to the World," Yeungnam University has been dedicated to nurturing talents who will enhance the dignity of Korea and contribute to solving global challenges. As a result, this rolling admissions cycle also saw a rise in competition rates and a record number of applicants.
Meanwhile, the practical skills tests for the arts and physical education fields in Yeungnam University's 2026 rolling admissions will be held for the Department of Physical Education on October 21, and for the College of Arts from October 21 to 23. The interview for the Medical Creative Talent Track (Pre-Medicine) will take place on October 18, and for the Regional Talent Track (Medical/Pharmaceutical, Pre-Medicine) on November 22. Successful applicants for the Practical Skills Track and Special Talent Track will be announced on November 11, while results for all other tracks will be released on December 12.
