Xcentry, a startup developing sensor solutions for next-generation Small Modular Reactors (SMRs), announced on September 11 that it has secured seed investment from FuturePlay, Seoul National University Technology Holdings, and SolidX. The investment amount was not disclosed.
Xcentry is developing sensor solutions for safety monitoring in next-generation SMRs. The company has secured sensor technology that maintains high accuracy and durability even in extreme environments, and its miniaturized design minimizes the need for reactor design changes.
The research team consists of experts from the Department of Nuclear Engineering at Seoul National University. They have experience in filing multiple related patents and participating in national research projects. Based on this, they are advancing sensor technology that operates reliably in next-generation SMR environments.
With this investment, Xcentry plans to accelerate the commercialization of its technology and entry into the market. Starting this year, the company will begin supplying products to domestic SMR research companies and institutions, and will also seek validation through leading overseas research institutes. To secure initial revenue, Xcentry also plans to enter the glovebox oxygen and moisture sensor market.
Ko Geunwoo, CEO of Xcentry, stated, "We aim to create a future where humanity can benefit from safe and clean nuclear energy," and added, "This investment will serve as a foundation for advancing our technology and expanding into overseas markets."
Jeon Aram, Principal Investment Manager at FuturePlay, who led the investment, commented, "The next-generation SMR market is an untapped field where even the specifications have yet to be defined, but this actually presents a significant opportunity for new sensor startups. We hope that Xcentry will first secure revenue and references in harsh environment industries, and then grow to become the standard for next-generation non-light water SMR sensor markets."
