Appointed as Co-Chairperson of Presidential Committee
"I Will Lead Progress Through Institutional Support"
The Presidential Office announced on September 9 that Jinyoung Park, Chief Creative Officer (CCO) of JYP Entertainment, has been nominated as co-chairman of the Presidential Committee on Popular Culture Exchange, alongside Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism Choi Hwi-young.
Immediately after his appointment, Jinyoung Park stated on his social media, "Taking on a government role feels burdensome and concerning as someone working in the entertainment industry, but I decided to accept it because I believe K-pop is facing a special opportunity right now."
He continued, "When I visited American record labels in 2003 to hand out promotional materials, when Wonder Girls became the first Korean artists to enter the Billboard Hot 100 chart with 'Nobody' in 2009, and even at this very moment, my dream has remained the same: for K-pop to be loved all around the world."
He added, "Through my work in the field, I have realized the need for institutional support. I will do my best to ensure effective policy support and to create more opportunities for junior artists. I am committed to helping K-pop take another leap forward and become a platform for global cultural exchange."
He further stated, "Since I am starting this after much deliberation, I ask for your advice and support. I would also like to thank Minister Choi Hwi-young for taking on this role together."
Jinyoung Park debuted as a singer in 1993 and released numerous hit songs such as 'Don't Leave Me' and 'Honey.' He founded JYP Entertainment in 1996 and has discovered K-pop artists including g.o.d, Rain, Wonder Girls, 2PM, Miss A, GOT7, Twice, Stray Kids, and ITZY. Today, JYP Entertainment has grown into a comprehensive entertainment company representing artists such as Twice, Stray Kids, and Day6.
