Yangju City Signs "Taxi Support Agreement"
for High School Joint Curriculum Participants

Yangju City in Gyeonggi Province has launched transportation support to expand participation opportunities in career-tailored education for high school students and to address commuting inconveniences.

On July 31, Yangju City signed a "Taxi Support Agreement for the Operation of the High School Joint Curriculum" at Yangju Baekseok High School. The signing ceremony was attended by five organizations: Yangju City, Dongducheon Yangju Office of Education, Yangju Baekseok High School, Yangju Sangun Co., Ltd.·YJ Cooperative, and Yangju Private Taxi Association.

This agreement was promoted as part of a community collaboration to ensure the safety of students participating in the joint curriculum and to expand their subject selection options.

The joint curriculum is a system that allows students to take courses at nearby schools if those subjects are not offered at their own school, providing diverse educational opportunities suited to various career paths and aptitudes. However, many students have experienced inconveniences due to distances between schools and insufficient transportation infrastructure.

In response, the city, led by its transportation division, established a support system utilizing taxis for student transportation after close consultations with relevant local organizations. With the systematic operation of taxi support through this agreement, it is expected that students’ commuting burdens will decrease and their range of subject choices will expand.

This agreement is considered a model created through the collaboration of local educational institutions, the transportation industry, and the municipal government. It is evaluated as a practical alternative that provides diverse educational opportunities within public education and guarantees students’ right to learn.

Kang Suhyeon, Mayor of Yangju, stated, "This will become a model case of cooperation created by education, transportation, and the local community working together," and added, "We will continue to support students so they can more freely plan their futures."
