On June 13, a customer surnamed Kim requested a cash withdrawal of 10 million won. On the same day, Assistant Manager Jo noticed multiple deposits into the customer's account. Finding this suspicious, Jo inquired about the intended use of the funds, but the customer was unable to answer and appeared anxious.
Assistant Manager Jo contacted the Financial Fraud Prevention Team at the National Agricultural Cooperative Federation for verification and was informed that it was suspected to be a voice phishing case. Jo delayed the transaction by going to the vault, while a colleague reported the situation to the police.
According to the police investigation, a malicious application had been installed on the customer's mobile phone, and the customer had already handed over 30 million won to the voice phishing group. On June 27, the Suwon Nambu Police Station presented Assistant Manager Jo with a plaque of appreciation.
Jang Jooik, President of the Cooperative, stated, "Voice phishing tactics are becoming increasingly sophisticated and intelligent," adding, "We will continue to share prevention cases and provide regular training on response manuals to take the lead in protecting the assets of our members and customers."
