Seoul National University of Seoul and Above Semiconductor Sign Industry-Academic Cooperation Agreement

Joining Hands for Talent Development and Technology Advancement
Expectations for Close On-Site Collaboration

Seoul National University of Seoul announced that it signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) for industry-academic cooperation in the fields of education, academics, research, and information with Above Semiconductor, a domestic fabless (semiconductor design specialist company), on July 4 in the president's office on the 7th floor of the university headquarters.

Above Semiconductor is a leading domestic company specializing in non-memory semiconductors, designing and producing MCUs (Microcontroller Units) that play a key control role in home appliances. Recently, the company has introduced MCUs equipped with embedded AI functions, strengthening its efforts to target the global market.


Through this agreement, the two institutions plan to expand industry-academic cooperation in various areas, including joint and commissioned research participation, sharing of integrated information on the latest technologies and industry trends through seminars and workshops, and joint utilization and sharing of educational resources such as personnel from both institutions.


The aMDA (ABOV MCU Design Academy) program, established through this agreement, aims to foster creative and convergent talent based on the needs of the industry. The program involves joint execution of research and development projects based on the specialized fields of participating university laboratories, with the core goal of creating synergy between Above Semiconductor's practical expertise and the universities' outstanding talent.


The laboratory of Professor Seo Minjae from the Department of Advanced Convergence at Seoul National University of Seoul is participating in this program, and tangible results are expected in terms of recruiting outstanding talent and securing future technologies. In particular, students participating in the projects will be able to directly experience the product development process and strengthen their practical skills, as well as receive various benefits such as priority selection for industry-academic scholarships.


Won Yonggeol, President of Seoul National University of Seoul, stated, "It is very meaningful to be able to collaborate with Above Semiconductor, a leader in the domestic fabless industry. We will spare no effort to support the growth of both institutions through this agreement."


Meanwhile, the signing ceremony was attended by Won Yonggeol, President of Seoul National University of Seoul, Lee Moonkyu, Head of the Industry-Academic Cooperation Foundation, Professor Seo Minjae from the Department of Advanced Convergence, as well as Choi Won, CEO, Park Hojin, Head of the Development Division, and Kwak Seona, Head of the HR Team from Above Semiconductor. Both institutions agreed to continue their cooperation in the future through this agreement.
