On July 9, Kim Yongjin, Commissioner of the Korea Coast Guard, visited the West Sea Regional Coast Guard to communicate with employees and review key maritime security issues in the Southwest Sea area.

This visit was in line with Commissioner Kim's organizational management philosophy, which emphasizes "field-oriented operations, communication, and cooperation."

On this day, Commissioner Kim listened to field opinions and discussed effective response measures regarding special security issues in the Southwest Sea, such as preparedness for maritime accidents during the summer season and responses to illegal foreign fishing vessels. He also held a communication meeting with employees of the West Sea Coast Guard.

The Southwest Sea area has heavy maritime traffic, resulting in various types of accident risks. In particular, during the summer peak season, the increase in leisure visitors raises concerns about coastal accidents in the region.

Additionally, the issue of illegal foreign fishing operations in adjacent waters persists, requiring swift and robust capabilities to protect maritime sovereignty.

In response, he stated, "It is important to provide flexible responses based on fundamentals and principles, reflecting the realities of the field," and urged the team to "develop a multi-dimensional security strategy tailored to the characteristics of the Southwest Sea, so that the public can feel safe when visiting the ocean."

In his conversation with employees, he emphasized, "Demonstrate professionalism and confidence before the public, show respect and consideration among colleagues, and continuously pursue self-development."

He also visited the currently under-construction 'Coast Guard Maintenance Center' to check the progress of maintenance facility construction and began laying the groundwork for a stable maintenance system for patrol vessels in the future.

Commissioner Kim requested, "Please make thorough preparations so that the Western Maintenance Center can play a pivotal role in maintaining the Southwest Sea area."

The Korea Coast Guard plans to continue its efforts to develop effective policies through constant communication with the field and to provide maritime security services that meet public expectations through ongoing innovation.
