The Chungnam Office of Education announced on June 19 that it has established a comprehensive summer natural disaster response plan and launched safety inspections to prevent damage from heavy rainfall ahead of the full rainy season.
The office is conducting safety inspections at vulnerable facilities and construction sites in schools throughout the province to prevent damage caused by heavy rainfall, typhoons, and strong winds.
In preparation for storm and flood disasters, the office is making every effort to ensure the safety of facilities by inspecting drainage pipes around schools, checking roof gutters, preparing flood control materials such as sandbags in advance, trimming trees near schools, covering potentially unstable slopes with tarps, and repairing leaning fences.
On June 19, Superintendent Kim Ji Cheol visited Gongju High School and Gongju Gyodong Elementary School, both of which are undergoing slope reinforcement construction, received progress reports from those on site, and conducted safety inspections.
Gongju Gyodong Elementary School is carrying out preemptive reinforcement work due to the risk of soil erosion on its steep slopes during heavy rainfall, while Gongju High School is finalizing reinforcement construction after experiencing incidents of soil runoff from slopes into nearby residential areas.
Superintendent Kim instructed thorough inspections and management to ensure the construction is completed both quickly and safely, and then checked the condition of drainage facilities, including the sports field drainage at Gongju High School.
Superintendent Kim Ji Cheol emphasized, "As the full rainy season is forecast to begin this weekend, we will conduct thorough safety inspections to ensure student safety and maintain optimal educational facilities, so that no disaster-related accidents occur."
