Citing the Example of Cooperation in Han Ducksoo's Prime Minister Confirmation
Urging the People Power Party to Embrace the Spirit of Opposition Cooperation
Highlighting Minseok Kim's Economic Competence as a Prime Minister Nominee
On June 16, Eonju Lee, Supreme Council Member of the Democratic Party of Korea, called on the People Power Party to cooperate in the confirmation of Minseok Kim as Prime Minister.
During a Supreme Council meeting held at the National Assembly, Lee referred to President Jaemyung Lee's situation of attending a summit without a proper transition process, and urged cooperation by stating, "As the opposition party, attacking is not the only solution, so please cooperate."
She also mentioned that the Democratic Party had cooperated in the past during the appointment of former Prime Minister Ducksoo Han. Lee said, "When the Democratic Party approved Ducksoo Han's appointment as Prime Minister, it was not because he was flawless or perfect. There were enormous issues, such as suspicions that Han attended only four meetings and received 2 billion won, failure to submit work records for his contract with Kim & Chang, receiving 600 million won in real estate rental income from major U.S. companies like ExxonMobil and AT&T, possible conflicts of interest and financial transactions, holding his wife's art exhibition at the embassy while serving as Ambassador to the U.S., and a 5 billion won capital gain from the purchase of his in-law's land by a Singapore state investment company while he was involved in the Singapore Free Trade Agreement. Despite all this, he was confirmed."
She added, "When the government was first launched, there was a general atmosphere of just cooperating. I am reminding you of this because I think many may have forgotten."
Regarding the National Assembly's confirmation hearing, she said, "For the Prime Minister nominee, not only have they not set a date for the confirmation hearing, but now they are saying two days are not enough and it should be three. When did they ever claim to be a party that supported insurrection? They are acting as if they have forgotten all of this and are now holding things up. Even when we say we are willing to explain, they are not even setting a date," adding, "I think this is the height of hypocrisy and it has gone too far."
Lee described Minseok Kim, the Prime Minister nominee, as "an outstanding individual who possesses policy capabilities for the economy and people's livelihoods, a willingness to pursue market-friendly policies, a sense of political responsibility, a commitment to national unity, and pragmatism. Even before taking office, he demonstrated his qualities as a practical economic leader by leading meetings on price stabilization, and he has strongly expressed his commitment to national unity in action."
