"There Are People Power Party Pledges Better Than Ours"... Jin Sungjun Frankly Admits Why

Proposal for a Ruling and Opposition Parties' Joint Livelihood Pledge Committee
"Willing to Actively Review and Incorporate People Power Party's Pledges"

Jin Sungjun, chairman of the Policy Committee of the Democratic Party of Korea, on June 10 proposed the formation of a consultative body to promote joint pledges between the ruling and opposition parties. He even used the expression that some pledges of the People Power Party are "better than those of the Democratic Party" as he called for cooperation.

At a party strategy meeting held at the National Assembly on this day, Jin said, "As soon as the new floor leaders of both parties are elected, I propose to the People Power Party that we restart the consultative council for promoting joint livelihood pledges," adding, "When comparing the presidential election policy pledges of the Democratic Party and the People Power Party, there are about 200 pledges that the two parties have in common."

He introduced, "Representative policy pledges include support for advanced strategic industries such as semiconductors and secondary batteries, increased AI budget and private investment, debt adjustment to support small business owners and the self-employed, expansion of the 1,000-won breakfast program, and expansion of the scope of disaster recovery for agriculture and fisheries."

In particular, regarding some pledges of the People Power Party, he positively evaluated them by saying, "There are even more progressive pledges than those of the Democratic Party." Jin mentioned, "Expanding housing benefits for vulnerable groups, and broadening the scope of price indexation for supply payments to include not only energy but also transportation and water costs," and frankly admitted, "I honestly recognize that these are better than the Democratic Party's pledges." He added, "The Democratic Party is willing to actively review and incorporate such policy pledges."

Jin said, "Let's swiftly process livelihood bills on which there is no disagreement," and explained, "In October last year, the Democratic Party and the People Power Party launched a joint consultative council for general election livelihood pledges, centered on the policy committee chairmen of both parties. As a result, we have achieved certain outcomes, such as handling AI legislation and the Depositor Protection Act." He continued, "Even though the ruling and opposition parties have changed, let's continue to maintain an effective consultative table for the people."

He concluded, "Let's find the common ground between the People Power Party's 'New Republic of Korea' and the Democratic Party's 'Real Republic of Korea,'" and urged the People Power Party for proactive cooperation.
