Jang Kyungtae Suspects Lee's Trial Was a Pre-Scripted Verdict

Jang Kyungtae, a member of the Democratic Party of Korea, criticized the Supreme Court's retrial verdict regarding presidential candidate Lee Jaemyung, calling it a "pre-scripted trial."

On May 2, Jang wrote on Facebook, "(The Supreme Court) 'unusually' referred the case to the Grand Bench on the same day it was assigned, 'unusually' set the hearing date on the same day, and 'unusually' scheduled the deliberation date just two days later." He added, "Judicial interference in politics has gone too far. These unusual procedures have been repeated only in candidate Lee's trial."

Jang also stated, "Afterward, 60,000 pages of case records were reviewed in just nine days, and the case was concluded after only two hearings." He argued, "When coincidences keep repeating, it is only natural to suspect that the verdict was predetermined in a 'scripted trial.'" He continued, "The President of the Republic of Korea is elected by the people. We will thoroughly question and hold the judiciary accountable for its political interference."

Meanwhile, on this day, the retrial of Democratic Party presidential candidate Lee Jaemyung's violation of the Public Official Election Act was assigned to the Criminal Division 7 of the Seoul High Court. This comes just one day after the Supreme Court Grand Bench overturned the appellate court's acquittal and remanded the case with a guilty verdict.
