Governor Kim Taehum Criticizes Democratic Party's Move to Impeach Deputy Prime Minister for Economic Affairs as "Parliamentary Coup"

Kim Taehum, Governor of Chungnam, criticized the Democratic Party of Korea's move to impeach the Deputy Prime Minister for Economic Affairs as a "parliamentary coup" on his social networking service (SNS) account on May 2.

Governor Kim claimed, "The Democratic Party submitted an impeachment motion against the Deputy Prime Minister for Economic Affairs in March, waited for the right moment, and then pushed for a retaliatory impeachment after the Supreme Court's ruling to overturn and remand Lee Jaemyung's conviction."

He continued, "The initial impeachment grounds cited by the Democratic Party, such as suspicions of being an accomplice to insurrection or the failure to appoint Constitutional Court justices, are completely unfounded," and pointed out, "In the end, the Deputy Prime Minister for Economic Affairs, who is the country's chief economic policymaker, could not withstand the impeachment offensive and abruptly resigned."

Governor Kim added, "There are already setbacks in tariff negotiations with the United States, and with the number of cabinet ministers reduced to 14, the administration is facing a crisis," criticizing, "If this reckless act by the Democratic Party, which is obsessed with paralyzing the executive branch and seizing power, is not a coup aimed at overthrowing the state, then what is?"

He further stressed, "If this is how things are even before they take power, then if they do, national unity will be nothing but empty words," and warned, "If they seize administrative power in addition to abusing their unchecked parliamentary authority, the country will become an absolute state."
