According to Channel A on April 25, a resident of Daejeon, referred to as Mr. A, discovered black mold on the strawberries of a strawberry Siru cake purchased on April 21. The strawberry Siru cake is famous for its relatively affordable price and for containing more strawberries than bread or cream, making it so popular that thousands are sold each day.
Mr. A reported that the cake was stored in the refrigerator about ten minutes after purchase, but when the cake was taken out again that evening, mold had already appeared. Mr. A said, "There was mold, and liquid was running from under the strawberry cake," adding, "It looked like strawberry juice was leaking out."
The buyer pointed out that the daytime temperature in Daejeon reached 28 degrees Celsius on the day the strawberry Siru cake was purchased, and questioned whether the problem occurred because Seongsimdang stored the cakes at room temperature. Mr. A stated, "They just left the cakes at room temperature after making them. I think they became soft after being left out for several hours."
Seongsimdang admitted to inadequate product management and issued an apology. The bakery also announced that it would improve refrigeration facilities for cake storage and has suspended sales of the strawberry Siru cake, which was originally planned to be sold until the end of this month.
The district office in charge, which conducted an on-site inspection, stated that it had issued guidance measures, including urging thorough temperature control.
