The Zurich Classic is a team event in which two players pair up and compete together. The first and third rounds are played as four-ball (each player plays their own ball and the better score counts for the team), while the second and fourth rounds are played as foursomes (the two players alternate shots with one ball).

Isaiah Salinda and Kevin Velo (both from the United States) topped the leaderboard with a 14-under-par 58, recording one eagle and twelve birdies. The twin golfers Nicolai and Rasmus Hojgaard (both from Denmark) were in second place by one stroke with a 13-under-par 59.

Collin Morikawa and Kurt Kitayama (both from the United States) are in a tie for third at 11-under-par 61, looking for an opportunity to move up. Defending champions Rory McIlroy (Northern Ireland) and Shane Lowry (Ireland) are tied for 28th at 8-under-par 64. Doug Kim and Kim Chan (both from the United States) also finished the first round in a tie for 72nd.
