Gumi City Needs Systematic Approach
for Tourism Revitalization and
Youth Housing Solutions
On the 14th, at the 1st plenary session of the 286th temporary meeting of the Gumi City Council, Kim Nakgwan, a council member from the People Power Party representing Seonju-Wonnam-dong, strongly urged the establishment of a dedicated organization to revitalize Gumi's tourism industry and address youth housing issues.
Kim Nakgwan, a member of the People Power Party and Gumi City Council, delivering a 5-minute free speech.
During his remarks, Kim stated, "Although Gumi is promoting tourism-related projects such as the Geumosan area development project, the structural limitations of administrative personnel are causing these projects to stagnate," emphasizing the need for a dedicated organization.
He added, "With only one Grade 7 public official in charge of these tasks, it is inevitable that there will be significant challenges in implementing the projects," calling for an organizational restructuring that can comprehensively lead Gumi's tourism policies.
Kim cited the example of Nonsan City's 'Future Strategy Office,' stating, "Nonsan successfully led the development of Tapjeongho through a dedicated team, resulting in a surge of tourists and revitalization of the local economy." He argued that Gumi also needs to establish a dedicated team for the organic promotion of tourism projects.
Kim also addressed the issue of youth housing.
He said, "Due to the Songcheon District urban development project currently being promoted by Gimcheon City and LH Corporation, there is a high possibility that young people from Gumi will relocate," urging Gumi City to prepare proactive measures to secure youth housing.
He further pointed out, "The outflow of young people, including students from Gumi University, is becoming a reality," stressing the urgent need to develop effective housing policy alternatives to prevent youth outmigration.
Kim concluded by saying, "No matter how excellent the plans are, without the will to implement them, they are meaningless," and emphasized, "Now is the decisive moment for Gumi City to seize the opportunity to take a leap forward," ending his remarks.
