Production Line Automation Upgraded
Production Scale Increased by 67% Compared to Previous
New Excavator Model HX400 to Be Produced
HD Hyundai Construction Equipment's Ulsan 'Smart Factory' construction project, aimed at increasing production competitiveness, will be completed next month.
According to the industry on the 4th, Choi Cheol-gon, CEO of HD Hyundai Construction Equipment, stated at a press conference held after unveiling new products at the '2025 Seoul Mobility Show' at KINTEX in Goyang-si, Gyeonggi Province, the day before, "The smart factory at the Ulsan campus will be completed on the 20th of next month after two years of construction." The Ulsan smart factory construction project is a project to upgrade the aging production lines and equipment of the existing Ulsan plant, which was built with a total floor area of 113,619㎡ in the Ilsandong area. HD Hyundai Construction Equipment has invested about 200 billion KRW in this project since 2023.

The Ulsan smart factory will feature a Level 4 automated production line. Level 4 refers to a level where preemptive responses are possible through process operation simulations. Quality and material management are also based on artificial intelligence (AI). HD Hyundai Construction Equipment expects that with the establishment of such a production line, the production scale of core construction equipment such as excavators at the Ulsan plant will increase by 67%, from about 9,000 units annually to about 15,000 units.
The next-generation excavator new model 'Hyundai (HX400)', globally unveiled for the first time by HD Hyundai at the Mobility Show, will be produced at the Ulsan smart factory. This 40-ton class excavator model is equipped with an electronic control hydraulic system (FEH) and incorporates the latest construction equipment technologies such as 'Smart Assist' to enhance work efficiency. Additionally, it is equipped with the DX08 engine, which was selected as the 'Diesel Engine of the Year' in Italy, delivering a maximum output of 340 horsepower. Fuel efficiency is also 32% higher compared to previous models.

CEO Choi said, "Along with the new model, we plan to grow sales by an average of 12.5% annually starting this year," adding, "We expect to increase our global market share by 2 to 3 percentage points within 2 to 3 years." As of last year, HD Hyundai Construction Equipment's sales amounted to 3.4381 trillion KRW. The global market share for excavators stands at about 1.2%.
