43 Construction Engineers Receive Government Awards
"Contributions to National Infrastructure Development"

Jung Tae-seop, chairman of Shinseong Engineering, is a key figure who was involved in the design of major sections of Seoul Subway Lines 1 to 8, starting with the design of the 'Dongdaemun' section of the country's first Seoul Subway Line 1 'Jongno Line.' He also participated in the design of the Dangjin-Pyeongtaek power tunnel, the nation's first high-voltage direct current underwater transmission tunnel. He is recognized for contributing to national development through significant large-scale national projects.

On the 25th, Chairman Jung received the Gold Tower Industrial Medal, the highest honor for 1.1 million construction engineers, at the '2025 Construction Engineers' Day' ceremony held at the Construction Hall in Gangnam-gu, Seoul. The Korea Construction Engineers Association, which co-hosted the event with the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport, explained the award reason by stating, "He led the dawn of the subway era and contributed to improving the convenience and quality of life for the public," and "He also donated more than 200 million won to Gangnam Severance Hospital, supporting public health promotion and medical welfare improvement."


The Silver Tower Industrial Medal was awarded to Jang Deok-bae, advisor at Mooyoung CM Architects Office. He was recognized for his contributions to the advancement of architectural construction technology by overseeing the construction of the Olympic Gymnastics Stadium and authoring the standard specifications and safety white papers. In addition, a total of 43 construction engineers received awards, including ▲ Industrial Medal to Baek Jin-gi, CEO of Jangmaek Engineering ▲ Industrial Medal to Song Su-jin, CEO of Kairos Architects Office ▲ Presidential Citation to Kim Sung-ho, Vice President of Dongseong Engineering.


The ceremony was held to honor the dedication of 1.1 million construction engineers and to pledge a future leap forward using smart construction technology. Construction Engineers' Day was established to commemorate March 25, 1998, when Hwaseong Haenggung, completed in 1796, was restored. Since 2001, the ceremony has been held annually. About 1,000 construction engineers and related personnel attended the event on-site, and it was also broadcast live online.


Park Sang-woo, Minister of Land, Infrastructure and Transport, said, "The efforts of construction engineers have been behind our country’s establishment of world-class infrastructure and leadership in the global construction market," and added, "The government will support the construction industry to leap forward as a more competitive industry through the spread of smart construction technology and systematic workforce development."
