Resident Files Defamation Complaint with Police
"Questioning Fairness Led to Witch Hunt"... Serious Internal Conflict
In A Apartment located in Illo-eup, Muan-gun, Jeollanam-do, conflicts over the selection of a representative (referenced in our December 23rd article last year, "Controversy over the 'planned and directed' formation of a representative meeting at a certain apartment in Muan") have escalated to an extreme level. Amidst this, Resident B, who had raised concerns about the fairness of the election committee selection process, suffered from harsh criticism and the spread of false information. On the 5th, B filed a complaint with the Muan Police Station on charges of defamation.
B pointed out serious procedural issues during the election committee selection process held on October 23rd last year. However, some residents who opposed B labeled them as a 'troublemaker,' and online attacks began.
In particular, on the morning of the 24th, the day after the incident, a message claiming that B had "stormed into the management office and hurled insults" was posted in the apartment's group chat, which has more than 500 participants. Furthermore, some residents indiscriminately attached two A4-sized sheets containing slanderous content about B to the doors of approximately 700 households.
As a result, B developed social phobia due to severe stress and symptoms of depression, and had to undergo psychiatric treatment.
B stated, "All I did was question the fairness, but I was subjected to a group attack. At first, I just wanted to correct the problem for the sake of the apartment. But in an instant, I was branded a 'disturber' and false rumors spread," adding, "Now it is impossible to live a normal life in this apartment, so I am looking for a new place to live."
Attention is focused on whether this incident will end as a simple defamation case or lead to further division within the apartment community.
