"Right Before the Arrest, He Said 'Politics Is Something You Risk Your Life For'"

Yoon Sang-hyun: "The President is cold but doesn't even wear thermal underwear to the detention center, what can be done?" President Yoon Seok-yeol, who was arrested by the High-ranking Officials' Crime Investigation Agency on charges of leading an insurrection, is heading to Seoul Detention Center in Uiwang-si, Gyeonggi Province, on the afternoon of the 15th after completing his first day of investigation. President Yoon Suk-yeol was arrested by the High-ranking Officials' Crime Investigation Unit (PCC) on charges of 'leader of a rebellion' and detained at Seoul Detention Center, while Rep. Yoon Sang-hyun of the People Power Party, who accompanied him from the Hannam-dong residence to the PCC transfer, expressed his sorrow, saying, "The president went out in the cold without even wearing thermal underwear, I wonder how he managed."

On the 16th, appearing on Channel A Radio's 'Political Signal,' Rep. Yoon said he "did not hear" how the president spent his time at Seoul Detention Center, then expressed concern, saying, "I saw yesterday that despite the cold winter, he was not wearing thermal underwear." However, Rep. Yoon added, "(President Yoon) was very composed and calm," and "there should be heated flooring in the suspect waiting room (inside Seoul Detention Center). He is someone who adapts very well, so he should be fine," he said.

Regarding what the president said to Rep. Yoon and others who visited the residence the day before, he said, "He spoke about the seriousness of the left-wing judicial cartel's rampage," adding, "Especially, he said, 'Politics is something you risk your life for anyway, so this is nothing,' showing he was prepared to accept it calmly." He also said, "'This is the first time an institution without investigative authority has stepped in so ruthlessly to request, issue, and execute a warrant,' and 'Seeing the impeachment of even the head of the Board of Audit and Inspection and a series of impeachments, we cannot just stand by,' and he said, 'Although South Korea appears normal on the surface, the software has collapsed, forcing a decision on martial law.' He particularly criticized the party, saying, 'There is no combat power. This cannot continue,'" he claimed.

Earlier, on the 15th, President Yoon was arrested by the PCC and police at his Hannam-dong residence in Yongsan-gu, Seoul, and transferred to the PCC in Gwacheon-si, Gyeonggi Province. After a 10-hour and 40-minute interrogation at the PCC, President Yoon was moved to Seoul Detention Center in Uiwang-si, Gyeonggi Province, around 9:49 p.m.

Meanwhile, the detention review hearing requested by President Yoon, claiming the PCC's 'illegal arrest,' was held on the 16th at the Seoul Central District Court. The court is expected to decide whether to accept or dismiss President Yoon's request as early as that day. The court must interrogate the suspect within 48 hours from the time the request is received. The final decision must be made within 24 hours after the interrogation procedure is completed. If the request is deemed groundless, it will be dismissed; if deemed valid, the court is expected to grant release.
