HD Hyundai Heavy Industries is targeting the global submarine market, including Poland, with its independently developed 2,300-ton class submarine (model name HDS-2300).
On the 8th local time, HD Hyundai Heavy Industries announced that it held a "Promotion Day" in Warsaw, Poland, under the theme "A New Era of Korea-Poland Cooperation for the Polish Navy and Shipbuilding Industry." The event was attended by over 80 key figures from politics and business, including Andrzej Grzyb, Chairman of the Defense Committee of the Polish Parliament, and Waldemar Skrzypczak, Chairman of the Energy Committee.
Held ahead of the bidding for the Polish Navy's submarine modernization project, 'ORKA,' HD Hyundai Heavy Industries showcased its independently developed 2,300-ton export submarine and total solutions, exploring various cooperation possibilities with Poland in the defense and energy sectors.

In particular, global submarine manufacturers Babcock International from the UK and LIG Nex1 from Korea participated in the event together, directly introducing the key systems and solutions to be installed on the submarine that HD Hyundai Heavy Industries plans to propose to Poland through the ORKA project. An explanation session on the basic certification (AIP) for the HDS-2300 submarine was also held with DNV (Norwegian classification society), reaffirming the safety and performance validity of the independently developed submarine.
Various measures to strengthen cooperation with local Polish companies were also discussed. HD Hyundai Heavy Industries signed a joint MRO (maintenance, repair, and overhaul) agreement with Remontowa Shipbuilding in Gdansk, Poland, and agreed to expand cooperation in the hydrogen energy sector with the local energy company PGH2.
Joo Won-ho, Vice President and Head of the Special Ship Business at HD Hyundai Heavy Industries, said, "HD Hyundai Heavy Industries is fully prepared to supply the highest-performance submarines to the global market," adding, "Today’s event will not only showcase HD Hyundai Heavy Industries’ capabilities and strengths but also serve as an opportunity to prove the excellence of K-defense industry."
Meanwhile, the 'ORKA' project is currently a fierce competition among companies from Germany, France, Sweden, Spain, and others, including HD Hyundai Heavy Industries. Among the 11 shipbuilders worldwide that submitted letters of intent, HD Hyundai Heavy Industries is the only one to propose two platforms: the 3,000-ton class submarine (KSS-Ⅲ P) and the 2,300-ton class submarine (HDS-2300).
