CJ CheilJedang and HD Hyundai Infrastructure to Build Solar Power Plant on Idle Land
Supporting Carbon Emission Reduction
HD Hyundai Energy Solutions, a solar power subsidiary of HD Hyundai, is expanding its solar power business by utilizing idle land.
On the 15th, HD Hyundai Energy Solutions announced that it recently successfully established rooftop solar power plants at CJ CheilJedang's Incheon and Jincheon factories. The total installed capacity is 2.7 MW (megawatts), producing 3.5 GW (gigawatts) of renewable energy annually, which can reduce a total of 1,607 tons of carbon emissions.
The power plants operate under a lease business model where only monthly usage fees based on consumption are paid without any initial investment or management cost burden. In the future, HD Hyundai Energy Solutions will be fully responsible for managing and operating the rooftop solar power plants at these factories.
Solar power generation using idle spaces such as rooftops and parking lots has the major advantage of not requiring additional land acquisition since it utilizes existing spaces. Additionally, because most of the generated electricity is consumed on-site, energy loss during transmission and distribution is reduced, and electricity costs can be saved. Recently, it has also gained significant attention as a means for companies to fulfill their RE100 (100% renewable energy usage) commitments.
HD Hyundai Energy Solutions plans to continuously expand its solar power business utilizing idle land. Earlier this month, on the 5th, it completed a megawatt-class solar power plant on the rooftop and parking lot of HD Hyundai Infracore's Incheon factory. This power plant is expected to produce 1.3 GW of renewable energy annually, reducing approximately 600 tons of carbon emissions.
A representative from HD Hyundai Energy Solutions stated, "There is a growing demand from companies for self-consumption solar power generation to achieve carbon neutrality. By introducing emergency shutdown safety systems mandated in the US and Europe, we will secure market demand and further strengthen our position as an ‘integrated solar power solution provider.’"
Meanwhile, HD Hyundai Energy Solutions is also focusing on strengthening the stable maintenance and management capabilities of solar power facilities. To this end, it developed the 'Hi-Smart' system, which remotely monitors all power generation facilities equipped with solar power systems to provide immediate after-sales service through a real-time management system. Additionally, a comprehensive control room has been established at the Eumseong factory to integrate the management of approximately 10,000 solar power plants.
