Police: "We Endured Because Elementary Students Were Watching"
A 190cm tall large man, intoxicated, took off his upper clothes and caused a disturbance on the way home from school near an elementary school.
The man threatened children and even lay down on the road, but a much shorter police officer quickly subdued him, drawing attention.
According to a video released on YouTube by the National Police Agency on the 5th, on the 25th of last month, an intoxicated man staggered onto a road in a school zone in Ulju-gun, Ulsan. The man wandered around throwing punches and kicks into the air as if shadowboxing. Elementary school students on their way home were frightened and ran away.
Eventually, the man stood in the middle of a crosswalk, took off his upper clothes and threw them, threatening stopped cars and children. Then he lay flat in the middle of the road, causing nearby vehicle traffic to come to a halt as drivers tried to avoid him.
A witness at the time said, "Even adults ran away. It was so scary that no one could approach. He was shouting and had a very large physique," sharing their account.
The police officer who arrived after receiving the report was Corporal Kim Hyun-seok from Onyang Police Substation, Ulju Police Station.
Corporal Kim said, "I am 171cm tall, but the man looked about 190cm. He did not listen to me at all and even grabbed my wrist," adding, "I endured it thinking that if I fell in front of the elementary school students, it would mean the authority of the police was lost."
Outmatched in strength, Corporal Kim used the man's force against him to break his balance from behind. The large man lost his balance and fell.
Corporal Kim arrested the fallen man on the spot and booked him without detention for general traffic obstruction.
