All Electric Vehicle Charging Facilities in Public Buildings, Public Use Facilities, and Apartment Complexes
Contributing to Increased Safety for Residents through Semiannual Inspections
Eunpyeong-gu (District Mayor Kim Mi-kyung) announced that it will conduct a special safety inspection of electric vehicle charging stations to proactively respond to safety accidents such as electric vehicle fires.
As the supply of eco-friendly vehicles expands, the risk of fire related to electric vehicles and electric vehicle charging stations is increasing, but current laws have insufficient regulations for preventing electric vehicle safety accidents.
As a proactive safety measure, Eunpyeong-gu will conduct a biannual special inspection of 1,105 chargers installed at 205 mandatory facilities such as public buildings, public use facilities, and apartment complexes, covering charging equipment and overall electrical facilities. In particular, any non-compliance found during the inspection will be subject to corrective actions.
Additionally, the district will prevent safety accidents through strengthened guidance activities to prevent overcharging, continuous promotion of related regulations such as the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport’s electric vehicle fire response manual, and the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy’s revised electrical facility regulations.
Furthermore, to ensure convenience for electric vehicle users, the district plans to provide charging facilities that combine both convenience and safety.
A district official stated, “We will continue to conduct special safety inspections to ensure the safety of residents as well as to enhance the safety of the increasing number of electric vehicles and charging station installations.”
