Yongsan-gu, Seoul (District Mayor Park Hee-young) will send thank-you letters on the 13th to 59 taxpayers who donated their local tax refunds, the first such case in Seoul. The donors are those who contributed local tax refunds of 1,000 won or more.

Applications for local tax refunds can usually be made within five years from the date the taxpayer becomes aware of overpayment or erroneous payment. During this period, instead of applying for a refund, taxpayers can use the 'Local Tax Refund Donation System.' The application period may vary depending on tax item regulations and local governments.

The 'Donation System' allows even small amounts to be donated easily through a simple expression of intent, and the donated refunds are delivered to the Community Chest of Korea. Donors receive income deduction receipts for year-end tax settlement.

Until now, the 'Local Tax Refund Donation System,' implemented to promote a culture of sharing, had low participation rates. In response, the district actively promoted various donation application methods such as ▲mail ▲phone ▲fax ▲text message ▲KakaoTalk by sending donation application forms together with refund notices this year. Gradually, the number of donors increased, with 59 participating this year.

The district plans to actively promote the 'Local Tax Refund Donation System' again in 2024 to create a warm social atmosphere where residents can participate in donations.

Park Hee-young, Mayor of Yongsan-gu, said, “We prepared thank-you letters to express our gratitude to donors as the year ends,” adding, “The warm hearts shared will be a great strength for neighbors to not lose hope and continue nurturing their dreams.”
