[Dec 4 Cabinet Reshuffle] Song Miryeong, Nominee for Minister of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs, "Will Stabilize Agricultural Product Prices to Ease Concerns" Song Miryeong, nominee for Minister of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs.

Song Miryeong, nominee for Minister of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs, stated on the 4th, "Stabilizing agricultural product prices, which repeatedly experience supply and demand instability, to ease the concerns of consumers even slightly is an urgent task of agricultural and food policy."


In her statement on the same day, Song said, "I feel a heavy responsibility as I have been nominated as the Minister of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs during difficult times."


She continued, "Everyone is struggling due to the ongoing economic recession and uncertainty," and emphasized, "We will strengthen income and management stabilization measures for farmers in response to rising operating costs such as agricultural materials, fertilizers, and fuel."


Additionally, Song identified the overall smartization of agriculture, activation of agricultural and food exports, and response to regional extinction as key tasks. She said, "It is important to innovate our agriculture into a future growth industry with high productivity and added value, smartize agriculture overall in response to labor shortages and climate change, and invigorate our economy through the activation of K-agricultural food exports. We will also respond to regional extinction by making our rural areas valuable spaces where people can live, work, and rest."


Born in 1967 in Nonsan, Chungnam, Song graduated from Changdeok Girls' High School and majored in Political Science and Diplomacy at Ewha Womans University. She later earned a master's degree in Urban Planning and a doctorate in Public Administration from Seoul National University. Starting as a senior researcher at the Korea Rural Economic Institute, she held positions such as head of the Rural Policy Research Department, director of Planning and Coordination Office, deputy director, head of the Agricultural Observation Center, and head of the Agricultural and Rural Policy Research Headquarters. Since June this year, she has been serving as a senior research fellow at the Rural Environment Research Headquarters. She has also served as a member of the Ministry of Strategy and Finance’s Fiscal Policy Advisory Committee, vice president of the Korean Regional Development Association, a member of the Agriculture and Fisheries Special Committee’s Agriculture and Fisheries Subcommittee, and a member of the Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs’ Policy Advisory Committee.


Song said, "Although my capabilities are limited, I intend to devote all my abilities and passion to the change and innovation of agriculture and rural areas," adding, "I will prepare sincerely for the National Assembly confirmation hearing with a humble attitude and will disclose detailed policy plans once appointed as minister."
