Genesis GV80 Facelift and Coupe
Media Preview Ahead of Next Month's Launch
The Genesis mid-large sports utility vehicle (SUV) GV80 facelift model will be launched next month. It is the highest-priced domestic SUV that first debuted in 2020, and its design has been refreshed inside and out after 3 years and 9 months.
On the 26th, the company previewed the actual vehicle to the press at the Genesis Suji showroom in Yongin. The biggest changes are the interior display and the front grille pattern. The driver's instrument cluster and center display have been combined into a single 27-inch integrated display. It is an organic light-emitting diode (OLED) made by LG.
The climate control system has changed from button-based to touch-based. The dial-type gear shift, horn cover, steering wheel, and crash pad have been slightly refined. The tray for wireless smartphone charging has been changed from a tilted to a flat surface.
The grille features a double mesh pattern. The dual-row headlamps apply the MLA technology previously used in the G90. Although small in size, these lamps are efficient in gathering and dispersing light.
The front bumper size has been slightly increased, while the rear is designed to cover the muffler in a pattern similar to the front grille instead of exposing it. A chrome line connects from the front bumper, along the side, to the rear bumper. The emblem symbolizing the brand is engraved with a Kiyose pattern (a precisely carved repetitive design). The wheel design has also been updated. One new exterior color and three new interior colors have been added.
The Genesis brand's first coupe-style SUV, the GV80 Coupe, was also unveiled on the same day. It has been six months since the concept model was revealed in April this year. As a coupe, the rear of the vehicle is designed with a sloping cut to give a sleek impression. It also features a wide air intake and smooth side lines.
The GV80 has discontinued the existing 3.0ℓ diesel model. It is now offered only in two variants: a 2.5ℓ turbo gasoline and a 3.5ℓ turbo gasoline. Additionally, the GV80 Coupe adds a gasoline 3.5ℓ turbo 48V electric supercharger engine model with a small motor. This is a mild hybrid system applied to the new G90 model.
New convenience features have been added. These include a full-auto air conditioner that independently controls temperature and airflow for each row, an in-cabin fingerprint authentication system, a storage compartment ultraviolet sterilization function, and heated armrests. The 14.6-inch display in the rear seats supports OTT services. Bang & Olufsen audio is also available as an option. Several driving convenience features such as a digital center mirror have been added.
Graham Russell, Genesis Chief Brand Officer, said, "The high-end consumer segment in Korea is among the most discerning in the world, and we believe this new model can respond to new demands."
