"That's Why They Broke Up"... What Divorced Men and Women Cite as the Number One Reason for Divorce?

Survey Results on Remarriage Agencies Revealed
Men Described as 'Makmuganae Type', Women as 'Dahyeolji'

In remarriage matchmaking, men identified “reckless type” women, and women identified “hot-tempered” men as behaviors that make them think they understand why their partner got divorced.


Only-U, a remarriage matchmaking company, conducted a survey in collaboration with Vienarae, a marriage information company, from the 29th of last month to the 3rd of this month. The survey targeted 538 nationwide (twilight) remarriage hopeful divorced men and women (269 men and 269 women each) about “behaviors in remarriage matchmaking that make you think why the other person got divorced.” The results showed that 31.2% of men chose “reckless type women,” and 32.0% of women chose “hot-tempered men” most frequently.


Next, “calculating” was ranked second by both men (26.0%) and women (25.3%). For third place and below, men chose “negative” (19.0%) and “hot-tempered” (16.7%), while women chose “reckless type” (19.7%) and “domineering” (15.2%).


Regarding the question, “What personal shortcomings do you think caused you to fail in remarriage with your ideal partner?” men ranked “affectionate” (28.6%) and “financial capability” (26.0%) as first. Women ranked “reliability” (30.1%) and “appearance” (27.1%) as first.

Looking at the rankings below second place, men chose “appearance” (20.1%) and “reliability” (17.5%), while women chose “affectionate” (21.2%) and “financial capability” (16.4%).


Regarding “characteristics unique to remarriage matchmaking that were not felt in first marriage matchmaking,” there was a significant difference in opinions between men and women. For men, the most common answer was “men mainly bear the dating expenses” at 29%, followed by “I am usually the one who rejects in matchmaking” at 26.4%.


On the other hand, women’s most common answer was “men talk more” at 28.3%, followed by “the partner looks too old” at 24.2%, which ranked second.


For third place, both men and women chose “I don’t feel attracted to the partner as the opposite sex” (men 22.3%, women 21.5%). Fourth place for men was “the partner looks too old” (16.0%), and for women, it was “I am usually the one who rejects in matchmaking” (18.2%).


Meanwhile, Only-U also announced the results of a survey on May 23 about “the partner’s appearance that most frequently causes disappointment in remarriage matchmaking.” This survey was conducted from the 15th to the 20th of last month, targeting 516 nationwide (twilight) remarriage hopeful divorced men and women (258 men and 258 women each).


The survey results showed that men ranked “ajumma atmosphere” (32.2%) and “obesity” (28.6%) as first and second. Women most frequently answered “looking old for their age” (33.0%) and “baldness/gray hair” (17.7%).


Also, in response to the question “What do you think is your appearance advantage compared to peers?” 31.0% of men chose “impression,” and 33.3% of women chose “youthful appearance.”
