5.51 Million Viewers Watched 'Suzume's Door Lock' - First Japanese Film to Enter Top 100 Still from Suzume's Locking Up

The Japanese animated film "Suzume no Tojimari" has entered the top 100 domestic box office hits.


On the 5th, distributor Media Castle announced that according to the Korea Film Council's integrated ticketing system as of midnight on the 4th, "Suzume no Tojimari" (directed by Makoto Shinkai) has attracted a cumulative audience of 5,514,465, entering the all-time box office top 100. It ranked 99th, surpassing "The Suspect" (2013), which drew about 5.5 million viewers.


The film became the first release this year to surpass 5 million viewers, topping the box office. Additionally, it broke the record for the third highest-grossing animated film released domestically and became the first Japanese film released in Korea to enter the top 100 box office hits.


"Suzume no Tojimari" tells the story of a girl named Suzume who accidentally opens a door that brings disaster, and desperately closes doors to prevent disasters occurring across Japan.


Directed by Makoto Shinkai, who attracted 10 million viewers in Japan consecutively with "Your Name." (2017), "Weathering with You" (2019), and now "Suzume no Tojimari." All three of the director’s films are based on the 2011 Great East Japan Earthquake.
