‘Citizen's Day Ceremony’ and ‘Citizen Sports Festival’ Held
Kang Jaemyung, Head of Infectious Disease Response Headquarters, Receives Citizen Award
Pohang City will hold the ‘2023 Pohang Citizens' Day Ceremony’ and the ‘14th Pohang Citizens' Sports Festival’ simultaneously at Pohang Sports Complex on the 10th to celebrate the 74th anniversary of the city’s elevation, creating a venue for civic unity.
This year’s Citizens' Day ceremony is especially meaningful as it is held on a large scale in the post-endemic declaration phase of full return to normal life. By hosting it together with the Pohang Citizens' Sports Festival, a variety of events will be organized to make it a commemorative event in which all citizens can participate.
The first part of the Citizens' Day ceremony will begin with the entrance of teams from each eup, myeon, and dong, followed by ▲reading of the Citizens' Charter ▲presentation of the Citizens' Award ▲lighting of the flame ▲singing of the Citizens' Song ▲and congratulatory performances by popular singers Jinseong and Byeolsarang. The event will be held as a place of unity to inspire pride and love for Pohang among its citizens.
In particular, the ‘Pohang Citizens' Award,’ given to individuals with outstanding contributions to city development and the creation of a bright and healthy civil society, was awarded to Kang Jaemyung, head of the city’s Infectious Disease Response Headquarters, as decided by the Citizens' Award Deliberation Committee. The award will be presented on the day.
Kang Jae-myung, Head of the Infectious Disease Response Headquarters, selected as this year's Pohang City Citizen Award recipient.
The second part, the 14th Pohang Citizens' Sports Festival, will proceed with ▲a cheerful sports day featuring six competitions among eup, myeon, and dong teams including group tug-of-war ▲a citizens' harmony festival ▲and an awards ceremony.
A city official stated, “We have prepared abundant attractions and entertainment for citizens, such as the Citizens' Sports Festival and popular singer performances, which could not be held for the past four years due to COVID-19 and Typhoon Hinamnor. We will do our best to create an atmosphere of civic unity and hold a safe festival.”
‘Pohang Citizens' Day’ commemorates June 12, 1962, the day Pohang Port was first opened, and since 2004, June 12 has been designated and celebrated as Citizens' Day.
