At the rally, Lee Jae-myung, leader of the Democratic Party of Korea, wore a sash that read, "All our fishermen will die. 50 million oppose this," and urged, "President Yoon Seok-yeol must declare, 'The discharge of contaminated water is absolutely unacceptable,' and conduct thorough safety inspections. As the President of the Republic of Korea, follow the orders of the Korean people. As a delegate entrusted with the people's power, strongly protest Japan's discharge."
Regarding the People Power Party's rebuttal that concerns about the contaminated water discharge are 'rumors,' he called it "brazen hypocrisy" and said, "Those who spread rumors by calling nuclear waste exposed to nuclear materials 'treated water' and making it seem acceptable."
This rally was the first outdoor event held by the Democratic Party to spread critical public opinion against the discharge of contaminated water. The Democratic Party claimed that about 5,000 people attended the rally.
Meanwhile, before the rally, Lee visited Jagalchi Market in Busan to meet with merchants. He also held meetings with fishermen, fisheries industry representatives, and small business owners to listen to their difficulties.
