49% Say Opposition Should Win General Election > 37% Say Ruling Party Should Win

President Yoon Suk-yeol's approval rating for his administration showed a slight decline. As future leaders, Minister of Justice Han Dong-hoon topped the ruling party, while Lee Jae-myung, leader of the Democratic Party, ranked first in the opposition.


According to Gallup's regular survey conducted from the 30th of last month to the 1st of this month (a telephone interview survey of 1,002 adults aged 18 and over nationwide), President Yoon's approval rating dropped by 1 percentage point from the previous week to 35%. Negative evaluations rose by 2 percentage points to 57%. President Yoon's approval rating, which had risen to the high 30% range in mid-last month, is showing a gradual downward trend.


The biggest reason for both positive and negative evaluations of President Yoon's administration was diplomacy. Among respondents who gave positive evaluations (354 people), 40% cited diplomacy, while 29% of those who gave negative evaluations (569 people) also pointed to diplomacy. In this week's survey, labor union response (6%) increased by 3 percentage points from last week, becoming a major reason for positive evaluations. Conversely, lack of experience, qualifications, and incompetence (5%) rose by 3 percentage points from last week, becoming a major reason for negative evaluations.

In the survey asking about future leaders, Lee Jae-myung ranked first with 22%, and Minister Han ranked second with 11%. Following them were Daegu Mayor Hong Joon-pyo (5%), Seoul Mayor Oh Se-hoon (4%), People Power Party lawmaker Ahn Cheol-soo (2%), former Prime Minister Lee Nak-yeon (2%), former lawmaker Yoo Seung-min (1%), Gyeonggi Province Governor Kim Dong-yeon (1%), former People Power Party leader Lee Jun-seok (1%), and Democratic Party lawmaker Lee Tan-hee (1%). Since the survey in September last year, Lee and Minister Han have consistently held the top spots as future leaders of the opposition and ruling parties, respectively. However, in this survey, Lee's rating increased by 2 percentage points, while Minister Han's remained the same as in the previous survey.

In the party support survey, the People Power Party recorded 35%, down 1 percentage point from last week, while the Democratic Party rose 1 percentage point to 32%. Regarding the next general election results conducted after a month, 49% of respondents said that many opposition party members should be elected, and 37% said that many ruling party members should be elected, showing no change.
