Yangsan City in Gyeongnam is transforming the city's character and enhancing residents' quality of life by creating a regional tourist attraction along the Hoeya River that harmonizes nature, history, and cultural resources.
On the 21st, Mayor Na Dong-yeon of Yangsan held a spring press conference and a residents' briefing session at the Wongsang Culture and Sports Center gymnasium, announcing a comprehensive maintenance plan for the Wongsang area linked to the Hoeya River.
The event, titled "Healing Base Wongsang Hoeya River Renaissance Vision Presentation," was attended by provincial and city council members, citizen integration committee members, and local residents, and was also broadcast live on Yangsan City's official YouTube channel.
Mayor Na presented four key themes: ▲Healthy Hoeya River that attracts people ▲Eco-friendly Hoeya River that preserves nature ▲Safe Hoeya River that brightens the city ▲High-quality Hoeya River that unfolds historical culture.
Nadongyeon, Mayor of Yangsan City, is presenting the healing base Woongsang Hoeyagang Renaissance vision.
To create a "Healthy Hoeya River that attracts people," Yangsan City announced that it will develop a distinctive walking trail over a 3.3 km section from Baekdonggyo Bridge to Dangchon Bridge, investing approximately 2.4 billion KRW in two phases from this year through next year.
Additionally, to resolve odor complaints caused by surface water inflow or domestic sewage entering the walking trail, curtain gates for odor prevention will be continuously installed until 2025.
The Ori Small Park along the Hoeya River will be renovated into a user-centered cultural ecological park to establish an "Eco-friendly Hoeya River that preserves nature."
Following detailed design this year, construction and completion are planned for next year, including the creation of wind corridors, activity and experience spaces, contemplation and observation areas, and an increase in restroom facilities.
Yangsan City will install lighting to ensure safety during nighttime walks and prevent crime, and produce a Hoeya River BI design to be applied to various signboards, thereby creating a "Safe Hoeya River that brightens the city."
Currently, the Gyeongnam Province, which manages the river, is also promoting disaster prevention project maintenance plans to prevent damage during heavy rainfall or typhoon invasions.
In addition, the Hoeya River will be reborn as a "high-quality regional attraction that unfolds historical culture."
Main projects include ▲creating parking spaces along the Hoeya River in the Deokgye area ▲establishing a hub-type light park in the Jujin area ▲upgrading the Ori Small Park in the Samho area ▲creating light lines along the riverbank and cultural and artistic spaces under bridges ▲and developing a cultural tourism belt in the Yongdang historic district.
Mayor Na Dong-yeon of Yangsan said, "We have given much thought to maximizing the historical and geographical characteristics and future competitiveness of the eastern Yangsan Wongsang area to make it a strategy for urban development," adding, "Through the realization of the Wongsang 'Hoeya River Renaissance' vision, we will find solutions for the development of the Wongsang area."
