Miryang residents Park Pil-soon (64) and Choi Yong-won (43), a mother and son, found a total of 40kg of Haseuo roots during a hike on Jognamsan Mountain on the 8th, including one root weighing 12kg and another weighing 9kg.
Jung Hyung-beom, president of the Korea Traditional Simmani Association, described this Haseuo root as a "record-breaking giant."
President Jung stated, "(Haseuo) usually takes 10 years to grow to the size of a fist, but judging by the thickness of the stem, the root discovered this time is estimated to have grown for more than 180 years."
He added, "Until now, the largest root found domestically was 9.5kg in Geoje, Gyeongnam, but this record has now been broken."
