Export of Korean Publishing Content... '2022 K-Book Copyright Market' from the 29th

[Asia Economy Reporter Seomideum] The Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism, together with the Korea Publication Industry Promotion Agency, will hold the ‘2022 K-Book Copyright Market’ on the 29th and 30th at the 2nd floor of Seoul Garden Hotel (Mapo-gu).


The ‘K-Book Copyright Market’ aims to invite overseas publishing companies to Korea to facilitate actual copyright export contracts with domestic publishers and promote continuous publishing exchange cooperation. During the event, there will be ▲ one-on-one (1:1) face-to-face and non-face-to-face export consultations between domestic and foreign publishers ▲ seminars introducing overseas publishing markets ▲ publishing export guidance (consulting) programs.


This year, a total of 40 companies from 11 countries will participate in person, not only from Asian regions such as Japan and Taiwan but also from European and North American regions including Norway, Italy, and Canada. Leading publishing companies from each country, such as Indonesia’s Gramedia Group (PT Gramedia Pustaka Utama), Japan’s Kodansha Ltd., and Thailand’s Amarin Printing & Publishing, are expected to participate in consultations.


Many companies related to publishing intellectual property rights (IP) will also participate. More than 10 companies from Japan, Taiwan, and China, including Taiwan’s AZOTH Books, will join consultations to import publishing-related intellectual property rights (IP). Thirteen Chinese companies will participate online.


Domestically, 41 companies including Munhakdongne, Sakyejul, Kyowon, and MiraeN will participate and conduct a total of approximately 480 export consultations over two days. Among the participants, many companies focusing on exporting publishing-related intellectual property rights (IP) such as Munhakdongne, Changbi, Sam & Parkers, Gozneok ENT, Safe House, and Munpia are included.


A policy official from the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism stated, “As the number of readers seeking Korean books overseas gradually increases, and movies, dramas, musicals, and over-the-top (OTT) video services based on Korean webtoons and web novels such as ‘Hellbound,’ ‘Kingdom,’ ‘Business Proposal,’ and ‘The Youngest Son of a Chaebol Family’ gain worldwide popularity, the economic and cultural ripple effects of K-Publishing as original content are also growing. We will spare no policy support to diversify overseas revenue structures of K-Book and K-Publishing through expanding overseas sales channels by diversifying export markets and pioneering new content markets such as export contracts for publishing-related intellectual property rights (IP).”
