[Asia Economy Reporter Park Hyesook] A youth-specialized complex cultural facility will be built in the former Dorim High School building in Namdong-gu, Incheon.

According to Incheon City on the 2nd, Dorim High School, which was located in Dorim-dong, Namdong-gu, relocated to Seochang District, Namdong-gu last year. The plan is to remodel the 5-story main building and the 3-story annex of the closed school building to create spaces related to the 4th industrial revolution such as a youth-only performance hall, robotics, coding, drones, and metaverse.

Additionally, workshops and creator studios used by youth will also be established. The total project cost is 19.1 billion KRW, and the remodeling construction is planned to be completed by 2026.

Before the center opens, the Incheon Namdong Police Station, which is scheduled for reconstruction, will use the closed school building as a temporary office.

In December last year, the city announced the urban management plan (change) decision after urban planning review for school closure and the establishment of public offices and youth training facilities. Subsequently, a survey was recently conducted to prepare utilization plans for the closed school building.

An official from Incheon City stated, "We plan to create not only facilities specialized in career and job experience but also cultural and artistic spaces that can provide physical and mental rest for youth."
