"Long Live Korean Independence!" Gyeongnam Province Holds 77th Liberation Day Celebration Ceremony

Commendation Presented to Families of Independence Activists Who Participated in the 1919 Manse Movement

"Long Live Korean Independence!" Gyeongnam Province Holds 77th Liberation Day Celebration Ceremony At the 77th Liberation Day celebration hosted by Gyeongsangnam-do, attendees are waving the Taegeukgi flag.

[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Lee Seryeong] Gyeongsangnam-do held the 77th Liberation Day celebration ceremony on the 15th and urged residents to participate in the roadside flag raising and Taegukgi hanging campaign.


The ceremony, held at the new building auditorium of the provincial government office, was attended by Governor Park Wan-su, families of independence activists, heads of provincial institutions and organizations, heads of veterans' organizations, and provincial council members, totaling about 300 people.


The celebration, held again after two years due to the COVID-19 pandemic, proceeded in the order of the national ceremony, commemorative speech by Park Hyung-in, head of the Gyeongnam branch of the Liberation Association, awarding of commendations to families of independence activists, congratulatory speech, singing of the Liberation Day song, and three cheers of "Manse".


The Presidential Commendation was presented to four descendants of the late Gong Eul-su, Jeong Sun-bok, Park Woo-moon, and Kim Jae-seop, who participated in the independence movement in 1919 in Changwon, Tongyeong, and Chilgok, Gyeongbuk, and suffered hardships after being arrested.


Governor Park said, "Without the sacrifice and dedication of the patriotic martyrs and independence activists, the Republic of Korea would not be able to enjoy prosperity today," and added, "We will further respect and honor the independence activists and their families and strive to improve their treatment."


He continued, "The 8th term of the Gyeongnam provincial government, launched last month, is making every effort to newly revive Gyeongnam," and added, "History is a continuous dialogue between the past and the present, so we will use the past as a stepping stone to create a better country and a better Gyeongnam."
