"'Flood Damage Insensitive Remarks' Kim Seong-won Holds Public Apology Press Conference"

[Asia Economy Reporter Lee Ji-eun] Kim Seong-won, a member of the People Power Party, who drew criticism for his thoughtless remark "I hope it rains so the photos come out well" at a flood relief volunteer site, held a public apology press conference on the 12th to apologize for his statement.

He made this remark earlier on the morning of the 11th at a flood recovery volunteer site during the People Power Party Emergency Committee meeting held in Sadang-dong, Dongjak-gu, Seoul.

As the content of his remark spread widely, Rep. Kim apologized, saying, "I apologize for my momentary lack of consideration. I will devote myself sincerely to the remaining flood recovery volunteer activities. I apologize," and also apologized through social networking services (SNS), but the voices of criticism are growing.

In response, Joo Ho-young, the Emergency Committee Chairman of the People Power Party, stated on the morning of the same day that referring Rep. Kim to the Ethics Committee is inevitable. Criticism within the party is also intensifying. Lee Jae-oh, the senior advisor of the People Power Party, appeared on CBS Radio's 'Hanpan Seungbu' the previous evening and said, "He should be advised to leave the party."
