[Asia Economy Sejong=Reporter Kim Hyewon] The Yoon Seok-yeol administration has finalized 120 national agenda items, including the abolition of the nuclear phase-out policy, securing a super-gap in future strategic industries, realizing a digital economy hegemony nation, and strengthening local decentralization.
On the 26th, the government held a Cabinet meeting chaired by Prime Minister Han Duck-soo to discuss and finalize the 'National Agenda Management Plan.'
The Yoon administration's national agenda consists of six major national goals, 23 promises, and 120 national agenda items to achieve the national vision of "A Republic of Korea that leaps forward again, a nation where citizens live well together."
After reviewing the contents and implementation plans of the 110 national agenda items (draft) announced by the Presidential Transition Committee on May 3rd, 10 new national agenda items related to the "Era of Local Autonomy" were newly added at the government level.
The government explained that the six major national goals were set by incorporating future-oriented perspectives and the will to resolve regional imbalances into the four basic sectors (politics/administration, economy, society, diplomacy/security).
The slogan for National Goal 1 is "A Proper Nation Where Common Sense is Restored," aiming for an era of national integration, recovery, and leap forward. Key tasks include abolishing the nuclear phase-out policy, innovating public institutions, normalizing finances to support private-led growth, and creating a flexible and efficient government.
National Goal 2, "A Dynamic Economy Led by the Private Sector and Supported by the Government," aims for an economic system where growth and welfare circulate fairly within the creativity, dynamism, and vitality of the private sector. Major tasks include securing a super-gap in future strategic industries, innovating the regulatory system, establishing energy security, upgrading key industries, and realizing a complete venture ecosystem.
National Goal 3, "Warm Companionship, A Society Where Everyone is Happy," focuses on sustainable welfare, building a cooperative labor market, spreading the appeal of K-content, and creating a society safe from crime.
National Goal 4, "A Bold Future Created by Autonomy and Creativity," aims to leap forward as a global leading nation pioneering the future amid the world-historical transformation of the Fourth Industrial Revolution. Key tasks include fostering super-gap strategic technologies, realizing a digital economy hegemony nation, advancing as a space power, and providing tailored support for youth.
National Goal 5, "A Global Hub Nation Contributing to Freedom, Peace, and Prosperity," summarizes key tasks such as strengthening the role as a global hub nation, proactive economic security diplomacy, normalizing inter-Korean relations, fostering a science and technology strong military, and first-class veterans affairs.
Finally, the newly added National Goal 6's slogan is "An Era of Local Autonomy Where Anywhere in the Republic of Korea is a Good Place to Live." It aims for a sustainable Korea that stops inequality caused by differences in living areas leading to disparities in opportunities and lifestyles and breaks the vicious cycle. Key tasks include strengthening local decentralization, educational innovation to nurture local talent, fostering regional growth hubs, and enhancing the self-sustaining creative capacity of local communities.
To ensure the swift implementation of the national agenda, the government plans to establish an organic cooperation system among the Presidential Office, the Office for Government Policy Coordination, and ministries. Through the "On-Nara National Agenda Management System" platform, the implementation status of each ministry will be monitored in real time, and the Office for Government Policy Coordination will conduct comprehensive quarterly inspections. Joint field inspections will be conducted as needed.
Public satisfaction surveys on the national agenda will be conducted twice a year. For agenda items with low satisfaction, expert cause analysis and other measures will be taken to develop improvement plans with relevant ministries. The results of the national agenda implementation will be reflected in the annual government performance evaluation, and a performance report meeting chaired by President Yoon Seok-yeol will also be held.
