[Asia Economy Reporter Kim Hyung-min] The Ministry of Justice is establishing a new team dedicated to preventing juvenile crime and overseeing juvenile justice policies.

On the 11th, the Ministry of Justice announced a legislative notice for the "Partial Amendment to the Enforcement Rules of the Ministry of Justice and Its Affiliated Agencies Organization," which includes the creation of a Juvenile Crime Prevention Team under the Director of the Crime Prevention Policy Bureau.

The newly established Juvenile Crime Prevention Team will be responsible for formulating and implementing comprehensive plans related to juvenile delinquency prevention policies, supporting and supervising the activities of private organizations involved in juvenile delinquency prevention, and overseeing alternative education for maladjusted students as well as youth psychological counseling. To staff the new team, five personnel (two Grade 5 and three Grade 6 officials) will be assigned by promoting existing Grade 6 and 7 civil servants.

Additionally, the Juvenile Crime Prevention Team will be established under a total personnel expense system and will operate temporarily for three years until June 30, 2025. The total personnel expense system allows ministries to use savings from personnel expenses to increase staff or create new organizational units.

Furthermore, to respond swiftly to crimes committed by individuals wearing location-tracking electronic devices (electronic anklets), the Ministry of Justice plans to increase the number of probation offices (Compliance Support Centers) under the jurisdiction of "Electronic Supervision Special Judicial Police Officers" from six to eighteen.

Currently, probation-related cases under the jurisdiction of the Suwon Probation Review Committee, including those from Uijeongbu District Prosecutors' Office, Uijeongbu District Prosecutors' Office Goyang Branch, and Namyangju Branch, will be transferred to the Seoul Probation Review Committee.
