PGA Tour John Deere Classic Day 3 4-Under Par "2 Shots Behind Tied 10th", McCarthy Tied 2nd
[Asia Economy Kim Hyun-jun, Golf Specialist Reporter] No Seung-yeol (32, photo) is making a push for the ‘Top 10’.
On the 3rd (Korean time), at the John Deere Classic (total prize money $7.1 million) held at TPC Deere Run in Silvis, Illinois, USA (par 71, 7,268 yards), he added 4 under par on the third day to rise to a tie for 21st place (10 under par, 203 strokes). J.T. Poston maintained his lead on the leaderboard on the third day (19 under par, 194 strokes), challenging for a ‘wire-to-wire’ victory. Denny McCarthy (both from the USA) is chasing in a tie for 2nd place, 3 strokes behind (16 under par, 197 strokes).
No Seung-yeol recorded 6 birdies and 2 bogeys. After struggling with 2 birdies and 2 bogeys in the first 13 holes, he made two pairs of consecutive birdies on holes 14-15 and 17-18 towards the end. With a greens in regulation rate of 77.78% and ‘pinpoint iron shots,’ he complemented his play with an average of 1.64 putts per hole, showing ‘stingy putting.’ Following a 5-under par performance the previous day, he is maintaining strong form for two consecutive days. He is only 2 strokes behind the tied 10th place, which is a sufficient position to enter the season’s first ‘Top 10’ depending on his final day performance.
Poston has been on an upward trend with rounds of 9 under par, 6 under par, and 4 under par. He joined the PGA Tour in 2017 and earned his first victory at the Wyndham Championship in August 2019. After suffering 14 missed cuts in 23 events this season, he turned things around with a runner-up finish at the Travelers Championship that ended on the 26th of last month. It is welcome news that world stars have taken a break. Scott Stallings and Emiliano Grillo (Argentina) have joined the tie for 2nd place.
