[Asia Economy New York=Special Correspondent Joselgina] On the 1st (local time), U.S. President Joe Biden once again condemned the Supreme Court's ruling to overturn abortion rights and expressed his intention to legislate after the Democratic Party increases its Senate seats in the upcoming November midterm elections.

President Biden said during a video conference with Democratic governors, "The Supreme Court has made a terrible extremist decision (to overturn abortion rights)," adding, "But this is not the end." He mentioned movements in some states to ban even out-of-state abortions and emphasized, "the federal government will take action to protect their rights."

He also stated that the 'Roe v. Wade' ruling, which recognized abortion rights, should be codified into law. He said, "Filibuster should not obstruct us on this path," and "Currently, the Senate lacks enough votes to change the filibuster (a legitimate parliamentary procedure) rules. It will probably only be possible after the November (midterm) elections," he added. He also mentioned the need for more seats in both the House and Senate.

These remarks suggest a policy indicating that if filibuster rules become an obstacle, related regulations could be amended. Until now, President Biden had maintained the position that filibuster rules should be preserved. However, after repeatedly being hindered by Republican filibusters since taking office, his stance is reportedly changing.
