Meeting Held Between the Korean Medical Association and the Korean Public Health Doctors Association Executive Committee

[Asia Economy Reporter Lee Gwan-joo] The Korean Medical Association (KMA) and the Korean Public Health Doctors Association (KPHDA) held a meeting on the 14th at the KMA Yongsan Temporary Hall to exchange opinions on major issues related to public health doctors.

At the meeting, the KPHDA suggested the need to improve the roles and placement criteria of public health doctors working in private hospitals and proposed to closely collaborate with the KMA to find solutions. They also requested the KMA's support to strengthen communication with local medical associations, as public health doctors are active not only in remote island and mountainous areas but throughout the country.

Lee Pil-soo, president of the KMA, said, "I deeply appreciate the hard work of public health doctors who have been on the front lines of COVID-19, and I will do my best in various ways to improve their rights and interests. Since we are very interested in providing status to young doctors who will play a pivotal role in the future medical community, we will continue to cooperate going forward."

Shin Jeong-hwan, president of the KPHDA, emphasized, "I hope the KMA will show great interest and support so that public health doctors, who have fought on the front lines of quarantine such as screening clinics and residential treatment centers, can carry out their duties without losing their sense of fulfillment and pride. I also expect that the KMA and KPHDA will continue to improve the working environment of public health doctors through close dialogue and communication."
