Large General Hospital in Seosuwon 'Suwon Deoksan Hospital' Breaks Ground on 22nd... 706 Beds

[Asia Economy (Suwon) = Reporter Lee Young-gyu] A large-scale general hospital with 700 beds will be built in the Seosuwon area of Gyeonggi Province.

Suwon City announced that Deoksan Medical Foundation, which has been promoting the construction of a general hospital in the Seosuwon area since 2018, held a groundbreaking ceremony for the construction of 'Suwon Deoksan Hospital' on the 22nd at 894-27 Gosaek-dong, Gwonseon-gu.

Suwon Deoksan Hospital will be built opposite the Suwon Western Police Station, with a total floor area of 99,637㎡, 4 basement floors and 10 above-ground floors, and a capacity of 706 beds.

In the first phase, a hospital with 457 beds will open in April 2024, and the second phase of construction will be completed in 2027.

Suwon Deoksan Hospital will become the seventh general hospital in the Suwon area, following Catholic University St. Vincent's Hospital, Ajou University Hospital, Gyeonggi Provincial Medical Center Suwon Hospital, Dong Suwon Hospital, Hwahoong Hospital, and Wills Memorial Hospital.

In terms of the number of beds, it will be the third largest in Suwon City, after Ajou University Hospital and Catholic University St. Vincent's Hospital.

The opening of a general hospital in the Seosuwon area has been a long-standing wish of Seosuwon residents.

Large-scale general hospitals such as Catholic University St. Vincent's Hospital and Ajou University Hospital are all located in the Dong Suwon area, so residents of Seosuwon have experienced inconvenience due to the lack of a nearby general hospital.

Accordingly, in March 2018, Suwon City and Deoksan Medical Foundation signed a 'business agreement for the establishment of a general hospital in the Seosuwon area,' taking the first step toward building the hospital.

Subsequently, in June 2019, Deoksan Medical Foundation requested Suwon City to review the general hospital construction project within the Gosaek 2 district unit planning area, and Suwon City held a joint review committee integrating traffic impact assessment, landscape, and architectural plans, conditionally approving the review proposal.

In April last year, final building permission was granted for a total of 706 beds, and in August, Gyeryong Construction Industry was selected as the preferred construction negotiation partner.

At the groundbreaking ceremony, Yeom Tae-young, Mayor of Suwon City, emphasized, "When Suwon Deoksan Hospital opens, the medical gap between Seosuwon and Dongsuwon will be resolved, and a 'medical hub' capable of responding to emergency disasters and infectious diseases will be established in the Seosuwon area. We will actively cooperate to ensure there are no setbacks in the hospital construction."

Kang Byung-jik, Chairman of Deoksan Medical Foundation, said, "I am grateful to the Suwon City officials and local residents who supported us in every way until the first shovel was dug," and promised, "We will successfully build the general hospital and provide the best medical services to citizens."
